Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) 2023-24 Seasonal Measures, Australia

  • Effective Date: August 15, 2023
  • Affected Regions: Oceania
  • Advisory Type: Updates

Dear Valued Customer,

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (the Department) have recently announced the measures for the 2023-24 Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) season. BMSB seasonal measures will apply to targeted goods manufactured in or shipped from target risk countries, that have been shipped between September 1, 2023, until April 30, 2024 (inclusive), and to vessels that berth, load, or tranship from target risk countries within the same period.

The following amendments to the 2022-23 season rules have been advised:

  • Addition of Uzbekistan to the Target Risk Country List.
  • China and the United Kingdom continue to be identified as emerging risk countries for the 2023-24 BMSB risk season. In addition to the target high risk goods, chapters 39, 94 and 95 will be subject to random inspections for emerging risk countries only.

Each shipment requires assessment and lodgement of the BMSB documentation by our Licensed Customs Brokers prior to lodgement with the Department. As such, we will implement a $25.00 AUD BMSB Direction lodgement charge wherever a direction is processed.
